The 1098-T “Tuition Statement” form provides information which eligible tax payers may be able to use to claim a federal tax credit. 1098-T forms are distributed to WVU students who are U.S. citizens and paid tuition during the 2009 calendar year for credit and/or non-credit bearing courses. On Friday, Jan. 15, following a routine upload of 1098-T taxpayer data to WVU’s 1098-T website, some personal information was temporarily viewable by WVU students who accessed the site. The system was shut down and secured within minutes of the problem being discovered, and students whose personal information may have been inadvertently viewed have been contacted. 1098-T forms will not be available online, but paper forms will be mailed to each student’s permanent address on Feb. 1. For questions regarding your 1098-T form please, contact your campus tax office listed at https://finance.wvu.edu/1098t/. For concerns regarding security, please contact the Office of Information Security at Information_Security@mail.wvu.edu or 304-293-9081.
